Complete AMB System

SpinDrive delivers complete Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) systems or individual components. Built on specialist AMB expertise. Engineered for your machine.

Why OEMs choose SpinDrive

Key advantages for industrial machinery

Unlike suppliers where magnetic bearings are one product line among many, SpinDrive is the AMB specialist. AMB systems are our core focus – from engineering and manufacturing to commissioning and lifecycle support. That dedication translates directly into measurable advantages in machine performance, efficiency and economics.

01.

Low energy consumption

SpinDrive AMB systems reduce the energy losses generated by mechanical contact in conventional bearings. With no bearing friction, more input power goes into useful work, not wasted as heat. AMBs allow higher rotational speeds, which in turbomachinery applications leads to higher system energy efficiency.

→ Lower lifecycle operating costs
→ Less waste heat and lower cooling demand

02.

No degradation from speed or cycling

Active magnetic bearings support continuous duty, variable speed operation and frequent cycling without wear-related limitations. Bearings are no longer a constraint on what your machine can do.

→ Limitless start-stop cycles from start-up to maximum speed
→ Greater machine performance capability

03.

Oil-free operation

With no mechanical contact in the bearing system, no lubrication is required. This eliminates the need for oil systems and removes oil-related maintenance, leakage and contamination risks in sensitive applications such as semiconductor, food and pharmaceutical industries.

→ Simplified machine operation and maintenance
→ Lower lifecycle operating costs

04.

Real-time control of rotor dynamics

Active magnetic bearings enable real-time adjustment of rotor behavior during operation. Stiffness, damping and unbalance compensation are controlled in the system software rather than fixed by mechanical design.

→ Software-tuned stiffness and damping
→ Improved stability across operation

05.

Tolerance to harsh conditions

With no mechanical contact or lubrication, AMBs operate reliably in environments that destroy conventional bearings, including high temperature, dust, vacuum and chemically aggressive conditions.

→ Extended bearing life in challenging operating conditions
→ Suitable for hermetically sealed and canned machines

06.

No contact between bearing elements

The rotating and stationary parts of the magnetic bearing never touch each other. With no metal-to-metal contact, there is no friction, no wear, no vibration source and no heat generation from the bearing itself.

→ Zero mechanical wear and minimal maintenance costs
→ Low vibration and acoustic noise
→ Energy savings

07.

No gearbox required in high-speed applications

When the application allows it, high-speed direct drive eliminates the need for gearboxes and simplifies drivetrain architecture. This results in fewer components, a smaller system envelope and lower mechanical losses.

→ Reduced system footprint
→ Higher drivetrain efficiency

08.

Built-in condition monitoring

The AMB controller continuously measures rotor position and operating conditions. This enables real-time visibility into vibration, runout and load without additional sensors.

→ Integrated predictive maintenance capability
→ Direct SCADA integration for system optimization

Full AMB system

SpinDrive’s in-house engineering team designs and manufactures a complete AMB system meticulously tailored to your machine, not the other way around. The scope includes magnetic bearings, sensors, back-up bearings, the controller and all mechanical integration components. This ensures a high quality and reliability of the system.

We commission the system into your machine and support it throughout its lifecycle. This is the preferred scope when the goal is a fast, de-risked path to AMB integration and serial production.

  • Bearings
  • Sensors

Flexible AMB scope

For OEMs who want more flexibility, SpinDrive provides a modular delivery model based on project needs. This can include selected AMB components or joint development of the system architecture with your engineering team.

We support OEMs who already have in-house capability for mechanical integration, existing AMB systems in operation, or those who prefer to split system responsibility across partners. This model enables a tailored balance between your internal expertise and SpinDrive engineering support.

For some of our customers, we take responsibility for the integration of the motor and VFD drive.
